Relabel System Setup Guide
This guide walks you through setting up the D&S Relabel System on a warehouse computer so that scanning an old label prints the new label automatically, with no print dialog. Expect about 10 minutes per computer the first time.
Before you start, you need:
- A Windows computer with Google Chrome installed. On a Mac or in other browsers you can sign in and view, but not print.
- A label printer that is connected, has its driver installed, and prints normally. The printer driver needs a paper size that matches your labels (commonly 2 × 1 in).
- The Relabel System account D&S set up for you (email and password).
- A free computer slot on your license.
1. Sign in and download the launcher
- In Chrome, open relabel.dswarehouse.com and sign in. The first time, read and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
- At the top of the page you will see “View only on this computer — no printing”. Click “Download the launcher Start-Relabel.bat” next to it (the same button is also under “Settings”).
- Chrome may warn that the file could be harmful. Choose “Keep”.
- Move Start-Relabel.bat to a permanent place, such as the Desktop. Don’t leave it in a Downloads folder that gets cleaned out: the launcher remembers your printer in the same folder.
2. Run the launcher for the first time
- Double-click Start-Relabel.bat.
- Windows may show a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. This usually appears only the first time.
- If there is no “Run anyway” button, or your company computers don’t allow .bat files, please contact your IT staff.
- A black window opens. That is the launcher at work; please don’t close it yourself.
3. Pick the label printer
- The black window lists every printer on this computer, each with a number such as [1], [2], [3].
- When you see “Type the number of the 2x1 LABEL printer, then press Enter”, type the label printer’s number and press Enter.
- The launcher remembers this printer, so you won’t need to pick it again.
Note: the launcher makes the label printer this computer’s default Windows printer, and it stays that way after you close the Relabel System. When printing from other programs on this computer, choose the printer you want by hand.
4. Set up the label paper (once per printer)
The launcher opens the Relabel System in its own window. You need to sign in once more in this window the first time; after that it stays signed in for 30 days.
If this computer has already printed small labels on this printer from Chrome, the launcher reuses those paper settings and you can skip this step. Otherwise the page shows a first-time paper setup:
- Click “Print setup label”. A print dialog opens.
- Set Destination to your label printer. Click “More settings” → “Paper size” and pick your label paper (it may be called 2x1, 2" x 1", 50.8 x 25.4mm or a custom name). Leave margins on default.
- Click “Print”, then close the Relabel System window. The launcher reopens it by itself, and printing no longer shows a dialog.
Your size isn’t in the paper list? Close the window. In Windows Settings → Printers & scanners → (this printer) → Printing preferences, add a 2 × 1 in (or your label size) paper. Then double-click the launcher again and, when the black window shows the prompt starting with “Press C within 3 seconds…”, press P within 3 seconds to set up the paper again.
5. Calibrate the print orientation (once per printer, about 30 seconds)
- The top of the page says this printer has no print orientation yet. Click “Calibrate now”, then “Print 4 test labels”.
- The printer prints test labels A, B, C and D. Pick the one that came out right: the border sits exactly on the label’s edges, the arrow points up, and the letter is upright.
- The system remembers which method this printer needs. If none of the four is right, the paper is usually wrong; set up the paper again as described at the end of step 4.
6. Post the command codes
Under “Settings”, click “Print command codes (new box / undo / reprint)” and stick the three codes on the workstation. Scan them during work instead of reaching for the mouse.
Everyday use
- Always open the Relabel System by double-clicking Start-Relabel.bat. Opened from a bookmark or by typing the address, it can only view, not print.
- Switch the keyboard input method to English before scanning; a Chinese input method swallows the scanned codes.
- For each batch: import the customer’s Excel relabel list and the new label PDFs under “List & Labels” → scan under “Scan” → when done, click “Export Excel” at the top right to save the records → under “Settings”, click “Start a new batch”.
- Changing printers: close the Relabel System window → double-click the launcher again → when you see the prompt starting with “Press C within 3 seconds…”, press C within 3 seconds → type the new printer’s number. P sets up the paper again.
Data and backups
- Relabel lists, label PDFs and scan records are kept only on this computer (in the window the launcher opens) and are never uploaded to our servers. If you open the Relabel System in regular Chrome, you won’t see this data.
- If you switch computers, reinstall Windows, or this data is cleared, it cannot be recovered. Under “Settings”, click “Back up progress” regularly to save a backup file; on a new computer, use “Restore backup” there.
- If you already imported data in regular Chrome, click “Back up progress” there, then “Restore backup” in the launcher window to move it over.
Computer count
- Each computer that has opened the Relabel System with the launcher uses one license slot. Computers that only view in a browser don’t.
- A slot is released automatically after a computer has not been used for 30 days. When all slots are taken, the system lists the registered computers; contact D&S to release ones you no longer use.
Troubleshooting
A red ERROR appears in the black window
“Google Chrome is not installed.” means Chrome needs to be installed first. For any other error, send us a screenshot of the whole window.
Labels print half off, too small, or out of place
The paper is usually wrong (for example, still 4 × 6). Double-click the launcher, press P within 3 seconds to set up the paper again, then calibrate the print orientation again.
Scanning does nothing
Check that the input method is English. Then check whether the top of the page says “View only on this computer — no printing”; if so, it wasn’t opened with the launcher.
Voice announcements use the wrong voice
Voice announcements use the voices built into Windows. English is always available; Chinese and Spanish need the matching Windows language-pack voices, otherwise the default voice is used.
